Zen Shiatsu Chicago will celebrate its 20th anniversary on June 26 at its Evanston shiatsu massage therapy school and clinic, which has graduated more than 300 students that have gone on to become licensed shiatsu therapists. Thousands of clients have sought care at the clinic for chronic pain, sleep and digestion concerns, immune system issues, chronic illness and emotional health goals.
Over the years, the clinic has developed a specialty in working with difficult health issues linked to major stress and trauma, including certain chronic pain cases, emotional overwhelm and autoimmune disorders. Practitioners specialize in working with these conditions, and the school offers postgraduate training for those seeking advanced education in this kind of care.
Founded in 2006 by Steve Rogne and Amber Matthews, Zen Shiatsu Chicago evolved from Ohashiatsu Chicago, which opened in Evanston in 1985 as the first U.S. branch of the Ohashi Institute. Today, Zen Shiatsu Chicago is the largest shiatsu school in the U.S., graduating 30 to 40 therapists annually and offering specialized postgraduate trainings and symposiums attended by practitioners from around the country.
