The Chicago Botanic Garden, in Glencoe, will transform its grounds with playful iridescent bubble art, performances and family-friendly events during Shimmering Summer, offering visitors a chance to experience nature through a new lens from June 6 through September 20.
Visitors can follow a trail of larger-than-life iridescent bubbles that reflect the surrounding landscape and take part in weekend programming which is included with admission. Events throughout the summer will include juggling performers, hula-hoop artists, bubble performances and musical entertainment.
The featured installation, Evanescent by Australian-based artist collective Atelier Sisu, will be presented for the first time at a U.S. botanic garden. Garden officials say that the work is intended to evoke the ethereal quality and magic of bubbles while encouraging visitors to experience nature through a playful lens.
The Garden also will present America Grows: 250 Years of Garden Stories beginning June 5, highlighting the role of gardens in American history as part of the nation’s 250th anniversary. The program will explore gardening movements tied to key moments in history, connecting them to the present day through stories of resilience, preservation and community.
Location: 1000 Lake Cook Rd., Glencoe. For more information, visit ChicagoBotanic.org/shimmering.
