Habitat Unveils Women-Built Solar-Powered Home

Tanya Duffie

The Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build program shines a spotlight on gender barriers women face in becoming homeowners. In Lake County, Tanya Duffie, a hardworking, single mother and her family, are building their home with Habitat at 10 Washington Terrace, in Waukegan, so she can become a homeowner. Habitat volunteers will install solar panels and dedicate the home at 9 a.m., September 14.

The Duffie Habitat for Humanity house will be the first Women Build home with solar panels in the nation. The solar panel system is donated by The Sun Company, the first solely women-owned national energy company. Lisa Albrecht, the founder of All Bright Solar, designed the solar system.

Sponsors include Habitat for Humanity Lake County, in partnership with Sysmex, Fortune Brands, The Sun Company, ReThink Electric, Go Green Wilmette, Elevate Energy, All Bright Solar, Grid Alternatives, the Kindling Group, and Carmaine Means of Drone Girl Photography.
