Energy-Saving Tips for Chicago Area Homeowners

Siding-1 Windows-1 Exteriors has been providing Chicagoland with exterior and energy improving home improvements for more than 25 years. They want Natural Awakenings readers to know that there are several steps to take in climatizing a home that can save hundreds of dollars and eliminate hundreds of pounds of carbon emissions annually.

Energy Star, a nationwide energy efficiency program sponsored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy offers helpful tips to improve energy efficiency. According to Energy Star, homeowners could be saving up to 20 percent on heating and cooling costs, or as much as 10 percent on their total annual energy bill, just by improving the sealing and insulation of the home. The most significant way heat escapes from the home is through leaky, inefficient windows.

By replacing aging windows with new, energy-efficient windows, the home will be keeping the heat inside. Often, in homes built before efficiency standards, attics were not insulated. This causes huge amounts of heat (and money) to be lost. It may not be the most exciting home renovation, but insulation is one of the best ways to save energy and money at home. The simple act of installing a storm door can increase energy efficiency by 45 percent, by sealing drafts and reducing airflow.

Siding-1 Windows-1 professionals are available year round to complete home repairs and energy efficiency improvements.
