Kadampa Offers Events for the Holidays

Gen Kelsang Zamling

Kadampa Meditation Center Chicago offers a retreat, Eight Steps to Happiness, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., December 27 and 28, ($30 for one day, $45 for both days) at 2010 W. Pierce Avenue, in Chicago’s Wicker Park neighborhood, with Kadampa Buddhist monk Gen Kelsang Zamling.

The retreat is based on the teachings of the renowned Buddhist meditation master Bodhisattva Langri Tangpa, who composed the famous “Eight Verses of Training the Mind,” which describe step-by-step methods to develop the special, inner qualities of loving-kindness, universal compassion, patience and wisdom.

Kadampa will also present a Prayers for World Peace and New Year’s Eve Celebration (free admission if bringing a dish to share) from 6 to 8 p.m., December 31, at 13 Harrison Street, in Oak Park.

This event includes a brief, inspiring talk, prayers for world peace and universal compassion and a festive potluck with non-alcoholic refreshments.
